BOMBAST is a party card game where players take turns ranting about different topics. The goal is to win points by delivering entertaining rants and getting approval from the group.

Basic Rules:

  1. Setup: Each player starts with three Bombast topic cards.
  2. Starting Player: Decide who goes first, perhaps by selecting the grumpiest player.
  3. Rant Timer: Everyone agrees on how long the rants should be. Suggested start: one minute.
  4. Winning Points: Agree on a target number of points to win, usually starting at ten minus the number of players (minimum three).
  5. Playing Cards: The starting player picks a card from their hand and plays it on the person to their left. They always keep three cards in their hand.
  6. Ranting: The person who received the card starts a rant using the phrase “And don’t get me started on…” followed by the topic on the card. They need to match or exceed the Rant Timer while ranting.
  7. Judging: Everyone who didn’t rant decides whether they liked the rant. They can show approval in their own way, like thumbs up or thumbs down.
  8. Scoring: If the majority approves of the rant, the ranting player scores a point. Reach the agreed points total to win the game.
  9. Continuing Play: The ranting player selects a card from their hand and plays it on the next person. The timer resets, and the next person starts their rant.

Advanced Rules (House Rules):

  1. Life’s Not Fair: Rant order doesn’t have to follow “next player on the left”. After a successful rant, you can pick a card you think a friend will enjoy or dislike and throw it on them for the next rant.
  2. PFF (Penalty for Failure): Have the group agree on a penalty for failed rants. Whoever fails to score a point faces the penalty.
  3. Changing Rant Phrase: After everyone rants once, the successful ranting player can change the starting phrase to something else. If disliked, revert to the original phrase.
  4. Filibuster: In special cases, if everyone agrees or a topic is exceptionally well-ranted, a Filibuster can be declared. This awards two points and may assign a penalty to another player.

Notes:

  • Judging: In the event of an even number of votes, the card’s player doesn’t vote.

For BOMBAST we are still looking for three things:

1 – a reputable charity to associate with this game!

2 – playtest feedback!
